A “new variant” of COVID-19 was found in Singapore that could result in the third wave of infections in India and impact kids.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, in a Tweet on Tuesday, 18 May, claimed that a “new variant” of COVID-19 was found in Singapore that could result in the third wave of infections in India and impact kids. The tweet gained over 14,5k retweets and more than 54,000 likes as of this writing.

The Chief Minister of Delhi then made two appeals to the Central Government:

  1. Air services with Singapore to be canceled with immediate effect
  2. Vaccine options should also be prioritized for children.

To find out, we checked local news reports from Singapore and the World Health Organization website. We could not find any reports on the new variant found in the country. We investigated variants and mutation trackers of the NYT, which also had no information about the new COVID-19 variants.
