A video that was generated digitally and appears to show a jet going beneath a bridge is considered to be real.

Over 24,000 people have seen the video that was posted on Twitter under the account ‘@Jane Doyle EJD’, which shows an airplane flying beneath a bridge. (Link to the Archive)

 

On Facebook, where many users have expressed their belief that the incident indeed took place, the video has gained significant traction.

It was brought to our attention that the visuals had been uploaded to YouTube under the guise of the Pina Bridge in Brazil. Additionally, we were contacted via the India Fake News WhatsApp helpline number with a few inquiries on the veracity of the video.

Fact - Check

We conducted a search using the video frames as the source for the reverse image search, which led us to an article on the Brazilian fact-checking website. The article includes an embedded post from the Instagram account “Vertice Treinamentos” that was made on October 29 and has a link to the popular video. This information was included in the user’s bio on Instagram, which revealed that they are an engineer. They also published a second video on October 29 that detailed the production process of the video. 

 

Since I’ve been wanting to make this video for some time now, I thought we might talk a little bit about the process. Only two things were missing from my arsenal: the ability to film and to deal with liquid simulation.

 

My footage from this month’s visit to a customer was captured during the ideal time window. Concerning the liquids, this was the most difficult task of the month!

It is already a common practice to travel by plane. The most challenging aspect was getting the engine to stir up the water. I tried a few different things, but the one that worked the best was a set of rudders to shake the water on approach, and I gradually increased the amount of shaking as I got closer.

After then, the hues… I had to employ a variety of professional rendering techniques in order to get the picture to seem accurate. From boosting the strength of the sun in Recife to fabricating a bridge in order to manipulate shadows and “mating” contrast levels, there were a variety of techniques utilized.
